GUFC Fans Visit Torun Prison Euro 2012

Galway United Fans in Poland for Eurp were invited on an official visit to Torun Prison, Poland on Friday 8th June 2012. The visit was organized by International House Torun and
The group of Irish Soccer fans were accompanied around the prison by Glenn Standish ( and the Director of the International House, Romek Poślednik .
Galway United supporters Tommy Shields, Majella Hegarty, John “Bugsy” Malone and Martin Qualter wore their Chick Euro 2012 gear with pride, together with Ireland fan Paul Mackin from London.
The Irish soccer fans spent a number of hours in the prison meeting prisoners and answering their questions on Ireland and Irish soccer. The Q and A was followed by a game of table football between Irish fans and Polish prisoners, unfortunately this time round Poland won 3-2. We look forward to a rematch…
The day ended with the Irish teaching the prisoners an Irish football chant (Come on You Boys in Green) and the Polish prisoners teaching their Irish counterparts a Polish football anthem. (Polska Biała Czerwona – Poland, White, Red).

The visit was covered by local and national Polish media, over 24 Journalists and 5 TV Crews in total.
